The Fondation Hartung-Bergman presents in its villa-atelier in Antibes an exhibition devoted to the cosmic visions and more generally to the dreamed relationships with science of Hans Hartung (1904-1989) and Anna-Eva Bergman (1909-1987). The Fondation Hartung-Bergman presents in its villa-atelier in Antibes an exhibition devoted to the cosmic visions and more generally to the dreamed relationships with science of Hans Hartung (1904-1989) and Anna-Eva Bergman (1909-1987). Through a wide selection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and archives, it will provide a better understanding of the two artists' plastic processes, in particular their compositional use of the golden ratio, and a hypnotic, even hallucinatory experience in front of some of their masterpieces, including the layers of T1973-R32, which seem to be directly inspired by Stanley Kubrick's 2001...
The works of Anna-Eva Bergman and Hans Hartung are for many of them endowed with an impressive cosmic dimension: each in their own register, they evoke the effects of weightlessness, the gravity of stars, black holes, quasars. As the astrophysicist Étienne Klein (associated with this exhibition) explains, they even seem to intuitively anticipate, in some cases, very recent astrophysical observations.
The exhibition will also deal with geological passions and photographic experiments. We will also revisit Abraham Poincheval's performance (Galerie Perrotin, 2021) when he embarked on a week-long mental exploration in front of a single work by Hans Hartung from 1989 (which ended up looking like a planet to him), all of which was accompanied by a recording of his neuro-cerebral activity.
The exhibition will take place in the Hartung-Bergman Foundation and will allow the visitor to grasp, in the surrounding park, the universe of telluric and cosmic sensations experienced by the two artists and their creative framework, with, as a highlight, Hans Hartung's extraordinary studio. To extend the dreamlike journey in volcanic colour projections.
